One of the most critical components to any successful ministry, business, or organization is the kind of leader that actually leads it. Things don't accidentally become successful. It takes intentionality, hard-work, and vision.
Over the last 2 years I have really tried to dial in to become a better leader. It's been more of working on me than working on the church I lead. It seems like the more I work on me the better the church naturally gets. They work together. Now, this does not mean that I don't work on the church, but I understand that healthy organizations are led by healthy leaders. So, I must continue to grow!
"From the tribe of Issachar, there were 200 leaders of the tribe with their relatives. All of these men understood the signs of the times and knew the best course for Israel to take" (1 Chronicles 12:32).
There is a leadership characteristic that every great leader has. It is called discernment. Some would call it "instinct" or "their gut," but the Biblical expression is discernment. In other words, the ability that set them apart as a leader to be, do, and see what others are not able to.
The Issachar Leader is able to discern "the signs of the times." They have the capacity to live beyond what they see or feel into the realm of what God has revealed. Issachar Leadership is not about information - it is about revelation. What is revelation? It is how God directly unveils things to you that you didn't study. The Issachar Leader has direct downloads from the Spirit of God showing them things that no-one else knows. The necessary trait of discernment.
Discernment as a leader is visible when ...
Leaders will see what others cannot.
Leaders will do what others will not.
Leaders will ask what others should not.
Leaders will say what other might not.
We are living in unprecedented times. But these moments we are walking in never take God by surprise. He is raising up Issachar Leaders who see and sense the signs of the times. Ask God to release an Issachar Anointing on your life and leadership. It is one of the most vital, yet overlooked, character traits that spiritual leaders need today.
God chose the sons of Issachar as one of the three tribes to go out in front of Israel when they moved. Judah, the worshippers, went first; then Issachar, the discerners, and Zebulun, the funders. Sandwiched between the ministry of worship and the ministry of generosity is the ministry of discernment. The church in America knows how to worship and they have more money than most churches in other nations, but we need more discernment!
May God raise up Issachar Leaders that will "understand the signs of the times." I pray that God unleashes an Issachar anointing on your life and leadership.
