FINDING A NEW CHURCH

There are so many people who are trying to find a new "home" to build their faith. With the emergence of COVID-19 many people begun to ask some serious questions of faith and they need a place to explore those questions. Church is a great place to find the answers you are looking for - in fact, I would suggest, it is the best place on planet earth to discover the truths of God's Word.

Church attendance is as vital to a disciple as a transfusion of rich, healthy blood to a sick man. ~Dwight L Moody

So, how do you find a new church? Google? To be honest, there are several ways to find a good church. First, ask someone who actually goes to church! Yep, don't take church advice from someone who only attends on Christmas and Easter. If someone is attending church that means it is filling a need in their own life. It's not a schedule filler, but it truly has a purpose. Second, ask them why they like their church. Get the hard facts from a church attender. Ask them, "Why do you go every week? What keeps you at that church?" You don't want to go with someone who just has a habit for church attendance, but someone who truly has a heart for their church. Finally, ask them if you could go with them one weekend. Yes, ask them on a "church date." That's right, you are gonna check out the church to see if you are compatible! Just because its for your family member or friend does not mean it's a fit for you.

You can be committed to Church but not committed to Christ, but you cannot be committed to Christ and not committed to church. ~ Joel Osteen

Here are some simple guides as you look for a new church:

1 - FIND A BIBLE-BELIEVING CHURCH

When you are looking for a church get plugged in to one that preaches the Bible. Seems simple, but all churches are not created equal. The Bible is our guide! As a Christian, this is a pre-requisite to joining a church.

2 - FIND A JESUS-CENTERED CHURCH

You definitely want to find a church that talks about Jesus. It has to be more than just giving you principles in life. A great church will evoke the name of Jesus constantly, because it understands that Jesus built the church.

3 - FIND A SPIRIT-FILLED CHURCH

This is more than just good music, sound systems, lighting kits, and a whole lot of emotion. A spirit-filled church empowers you to be the best version of yourself and unleash your full redemptive potential. Get plugged into a church that is plugged into the Spirit!

4 - FIND A PEOPLE-LOVING CHURCH

This is a major understatement, but find a church that loves people! I man not talking they just say, "I love you," but they demonstrate it! Find a church that is engaging the hurting, the broken, and the forgotten. Find a church that is giving money to missions and ministries around the world, but also across the street.

5 - FIND AN IMPERFECT CHURCH

This may not make sense at first, but don't look for the perfect, polished church! Because at some point the imperfections are going to stare you right in the face. Find a church that is filled with everyday, ordinary people who are just trying to love Jesus more and more.

“One hundred religious persons knit into a unity by careful organization do not constitute a church any more than eleven dead men make a football team. The first requisite is life, always.“- A. W. Tozer

Find a new church home can be stressful - if you let it. But take a risk. Walk into a church this weekend. I promise it won't be as scary as you think. If you live on Long Island we would love to have you as our guest! If not, don't just google a church - ask a friend!

Remember, choosing a great church is similar to choosing a great restaurant. The food has to be good! Make sure you are getting a steady diet of the Word of God from whatever church you attend or else you could become spiritually malnourished.

Happy church hunting!!!!
