There is a great story in the Bible. Mostly unknown. Tucked away is a sentence that can easily be read past. Here it is: “There was also Benaiah son of Jehoiada, a valiant warriori from Kabzeel. He did many heroic deeds, which included killing two championsj of Moab. Another time, on a snowy day, he chased a lion down into a pit and killed it. Once, armed only with a club, he killed an imposing Egyptian warrior who was armed with a spear. Benaiah wrenched the spear from the Egyptian’s hand and killed him with it. Deeds like these made Benaiah as famous as the Three mightiest warriors. He was more honored than the other members of the Thirty, though he was not one of the Three. And David made him captain of his bodyguard" (2 Samuel 23:20-23).
Notice, the line that is missed. He "chased a lion into a pit." Oh, come on somebody. That is not something I will ever put on my bucket list, but it was put on Benaiah's resume. He did what few other were able or even willing to do. He ran after a lion into a pit.
FEAR. Every person has fear. No one is immune to something that scares them. I have developed a fear of spiders. Why? I got bit by a venomous one. Yep, thats something I will never forget. So now anytime I feel the slightest thing on my skin I get a huge case of arachnophobia. My skin gets goose bumps and the hairs on my body stand up. But it doesn't stop me from doing what I need to do outdoors.
I have learned that the greatest regret in your life will be the lions you chose not chase. Oh yes, that's 100% true. I am grateful that God has allowed me to chase some lions and still have some lions that I want to chase. Colin Wright once said, “Chase your passions and money will come. Chase money and you may never find your passions.”
People spend their whole life:
Chasing success
Chasing money
Chasing things
Chasing grades
Chasing approval
Chasing love
Chasing people
What are you chasing today? Your chase determines your race. That is a fact. Whatever your find yourself chasing will determine how you run, where you run, and why you run. You have to make sure that you are pursuing is worth pursuing.
“The Person Who Chases Two Rabbits Catches Neither.” The idea of chasing two rabbits can also be interpreted as a reflection of indecision, lack of focus, or the fear of missing out. It emphasizes the need to make deliberate decisions, stay true to our chosen path, and avoid being swayed by distractions or competing interests.
What’s your lion? Have you ever thought about what truly drives you, what ignites the fire within your soul? It's more than just a simple question; it's a profound reflection on the essence of your being. The WHO that guides you, the ultimate source of wisdom and strength, is none other than God Himself. He is the compass that points you in the right direction, the light that shines in the darkness, the unwavering presence in your journey.
And then there is the WHAT – your Dreams. These are not just fleeting thoughts or idle wishes; they are the visions that fuel your aspirations, the goals that push you to reach beyond your limits. Your Dreams are the roadmap to your future, the blueprints of the life you long to create.
“Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart’s desires.” (Psalm 37:4) This verse encapsulates the profound connection between your faith and your dreams. When you align your heart with God's will, when you seek His guidance and take joy in His presence, your dreams become intertwined with His purpose for your life. Your lion, then, is the embodiment of your faith and your dreams, roaring with the power of divine inspiration and human aspiration.
Hey, no matter what someone tells you CHASE YOUR LION.
